Around 1:30pm crews were alerted for a two car motor vehicle accident on Lovedale Road at the Fuehrer Drive intersection.  Chief 184 responded direct to the scene and found a two car accident with one injury.  Engine 184 responded and assisted with patient care and cleanup.  Liberty Rescue 183 and Blaine Hill Engine 142 also assisted on scene with traffic control.

Later in the evening Elizabeth Twp units were dispatched for a vehicle accident with entrapment on Boston Hollow Road near the Cross Creek Inn.  Police and 140 Deputy 1 arrived on scene and found 1 car on its side, with one entrapped.  The location was updated to be at Keddie Lane and Boston Hollow Road in Lincoln Borough.  Station 184 was alerted and Engine 184 and Ambulance 610 responded to the scene and assisted with cleanup.

Shortly after clearing that call, crews were again alerted for a motor vehicle accident on Lincoln Blvd, this time for a car into a garage with possible entrapment.  Engine 184, Ambulance 610, Elizabeth Boro Rescue 139 and QRS 139, and Elizabeth Twp EMS arrived on scene to find a blue Honda all the way through a metal garage.  The driver was not entrapped and transported to a local hospital by Ambulance 610.  Chief 184 requested Blaine Hill Squad 142 to block traffic at Lincoln Blvd and Lovedale intersection, and Liberty Boro Service 183 to block Lincoln Blvd at Bellbridge.  The vehicle was towed by Mendlowitz Trucking and all units cleared.

Engine 184 and Ambulance 610 arrived on scene and setup lighting and assisted with patient care of one person that was laying in the roadway.  Engine 161 had the fire out and was assisting with patient care of a second person laying in the roadway.  Clairton EMS was on scene and Elizabeth Twp EMS arrived on scene as well once it was determined to be in Lincoln.   Chief 184 requested Liberty Service 183 for traffic control at Bellbridge, and Rescue 183 to the Bellbridge soccer field for a Landing Zone.  The patient was transported to the landing zone and flown by Stat Medevac to a Pittsburgh hospital.

Unfortunately, the second person did not survive the accident.  Lincoln police, the Allegheny County Medical Examiners, and Allegheny County Homicide are investigating the accident.

A new park in Lincoln will be named after a well-known and much-loved borough figure.

The recreation grounds created by Boy Scout Lukas Gaydos will be dedicated to the late Dorothy “Dot” Vay Sunday at 2 p.m. at Breznay Field.

It will be named Lincoln Borough Community Park in Memory of Dorothy Vay.

Gaydos, 15, of Lincoln, built a fire pit with benches, and landscaped an area around the flag pole with seven pine trees, flowers and solar lights. He made a path from the flag pole to the sidewalk and landscaped an area around the gazebo with flowers, rocks and solar lights.

“He did a beautiful job,” said Nick Vay, Dorothy’s husband and borough mayor. “Words can’t express how good it looks. It’s really appreciated.”

Dorothy Vay died at age 70 on Nov. 10, 2009, after a battle with acute myelogenous leukemia. She was a borough councilwoman for more than 40 years and a Girl Scout troop leader for more than 45 years. She served as borough secretary and Lincoln Democratic Committee chairwoman. At the time of her passing, she was director of Lincoln Volunteer Fire & Rescue Co. EMS and had been with the organization starting as an EMT and later becoming a paramedic since its inception in 1970.

Gaydos, of Troop 57 of Port Vue, created the park for his Eagle Scout project. He is now filling out paperwork for his project to go before the Board of Review. He began the project April 10 and finished it July 1.

He first consulted with Lincoln borough officials on a project he could do for the community.

Lincoln Councilwoman Tammy Firda said the borough had been planning to do something similar in memory of Dorothy Vay.

“She gave 50 years of her life to this borough,” she said.

Firda said when Lukas’ project came along, it worked out perfectly.

“I’m very proud he’s completed the project and did his own design,” Lukas’ mother Dawn Gaydos said.

The public is invited to Sunday’s dedication.

“He started the project on the 10th of the month and she died on the 10th of the month,” Nick Vay said. “The dedication is now planned for the 10th of the month.”
